INTRODUCTION
As semiconductor technology continues to evolve, IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) and SiC (Silicon Carbide) devices have become increasingly prevalent in diverse applications, spanning electronic instrumentation, power supplies, data centers, renewable energy systems, and distributed circuits. To cater to this escalating demand, MEAN WELL has introduced the GD2 Series, a novel 2W DC-DC gate driver tailored for IGBT or SiC transistor applications that necessitate dual isolated power supplies.
The GD2 Series boasts a compact, modular design, providing robust isolation of 4.2KVac / 6KVdc and a range of driver voltage options. In contrast to traditional designs relying on internal system transformers for auxiliary power, the GD2 Series offers several notable benefits: it streamlines the peripheral drive circuits on the PCB, enhances voltage accuracy, obviates the need for extra heat sinks, and bolsters isolation performance. The key distinctions between these two driving methodologies are outlined in the table below:
